Jackson Orthopedic Foundation’s Canes Gala Funds Musculoskeletal Training and Scholarships – Dec. 8 in Lafayette, Calif. Support cutting-edge MSK education for nurse practitioners, clinicians, and future healthcare leaders to meet the growing need for expert care DECEMBER 5, 2024, Oakland, California – On Sunday, December 8, 2024, Jackson Orthopedic Foundation (JOF) will host its 7th Annual Canes Gala, a winter-themed fundraiser supporting musculoskeletal (muscle, bone and joint) clinical education. The event takes place at Creekside Commons in Lafayette, California, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with a special program at 4:30 p.m. Attendees will enjoy a seasonally themed buffet and the opportunity to meet JOF’s instructors, students, preceptors, and alumni. The event will highlight how JOF’s signature Orthopedic Primary Care (OPC) and Healthcare Immersion Program (HIP) have impacted healthcare education and improved patient care over the past 25 years. Tickets are $75, with free admission for students. Filling a Critical Gap Musculoskeletal conditions affect more than half of U.S. adults, yet many primary care clinicians receive insufficient training to address them. JOF’s Orthopedic Primary Care (OPC) program, the only non-degree continuing education program in the U.S. for advanced practice providers (APPs), equips healthcare professionals with evidence-based, non-surgical skills to manage conditions like osteoarthritis and back pain.Without the training, patients risk receiving inadequate care or being referred unnecessarily to specialists. “Patients are in pain and getting older. When many people face orthopedic health issues, most front-line clinicians don’t have the skills or confidence to properly treat them,” said Kathleen A. Geier, DNP, board member and co-founder of Jackson Orthopedic Foundation. “Our nationally accredited Orthopedic Primary Care courses – supported in part by our Canes gala – fill that gap by providing clinicians with the evidence-based nonsurgical knowledge and techniques they need.” Sponsor Acknowledgement We extend our gratitude to our sponsors, whose contributions make the Canes Gala possible.
