Our nurses are in trouble. You can help.

Why nurses need your helpDue to the COVID-19 health crisis, many nurses who treat patients living with muscle, bone and joint disorders are having their pay cut, or being laid off or furloughed. Orthopedic procedures have been canceled or delayed, and some medical practices have been forced to close.
This leaves orthopedic nurses in an impossible situation. Even though they’re out of work, state regulations still require them to keep up their training and pay license fees. It’s a lot to shoulder when you don’t know when you’ll be working again. And of course, this also doesn’t help their patients, who are still waiting for care in an uncertain future. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 1.4 million health care workers — many of them nurses — were laid off or furloughed in April. You can make a difference today by donating to our Dolores Beanland Nursing Scholarship Fund. Your support will help make sure that our local nurses, and ultimately their patients, get the help that they need at a critical time.
This year, in addition to scholarships for our continuing education courses and workshops, we’re expanding Beanie’s Fund to reimburse nurses for their payment of certain licensing and certification fees. |
FAQs
What is the dolores beanland nursing scholarship fund?
JOF has a long tradition of providing education and our donors have helped fund scholarships for nurses in need. The Dolores Beanland Orthopedic Nurse Practitioner Scholarship was created in October 2013 to support students who aspire to enter the nursing profession or advance their nursing careers and may need financial assistance to participate in educational programs offered by Jackson Orthopedic Foundation. why do nurses need scholarships?
Nurses, by law, must keep up their training throughout their career to retain their license to practice. Training costs money, and just like other types of students, professional nurses can sometimes use a helping hand to cover the cost of keeping their skills and knowledge current.

what can i do as a donor?
You can donate to our Dolores Beanland Nursing Scholarship Fund, or as we call it, “Beanie’s Fund.” Beanie’s Fund supports nurses as they undertake vital training. Our goal, with your help, is to support 89 nurses, in celebration of Beanie’s 89th birthday.
what are the scholarships for?
We offer clinical courses and workshops to improve nurses’ skill and confidence diagnosing and treating muscle, bone, and joint disorders, especially in primary care settings. Full and partial scholarships can be applied to our four Orthopedic Primary Care Courses (80 CEU each), or for our Orthopedic Injection Workshops (6.5 CEU). This is a critical area for continuing education, as data shows that most clinicians lack adequate preparation to effectively treat the most common orthopedic conditions.
