Healthcare Immersion Program

Explore healthcare careers with JOF
Our 2025 program runs July 7-August 1. Applications are now open.
Apply for HIP
Our Healthcare Immersion Program (HIP) is designed to provide college students with a unique, clinical immersion experience in healthcare. The popular summer program gives you the opportunity to explore various health fields while shadowing experienced providers as they treat patients.

Whether you’re interested in becoming a nurse, a physician, a physician assistant, or a physical or occupational therapist, this program allows each student the chance to witness the unique aspects of each professional role.

Prerequisites for the program include an interest in a career in the medical field and one completed year of college education.

The cost of the program is $500 per student. Applicants may apply for a program scholarship based on financial need. 2025 applications close Monday, June 16.

Student testimonials
"This had a profound impact on my career. It increased my passion for the medical field.

After just a few short days of shadowing a nurse practitioner, I knew that I had made the correct choice in wanting to go into the field of nursing."

  • The program runs for four weeks and is very flexible. Many of our students have jobs or go to summer school while completing JOF's Healthcare Immersion Program, and this doesn't prevent them from participating in our program.
  • At JOF, we understand the importance of balancing commitments. That's why we work closely with our students to coordinate their schedules, ensuring they can fully engage with our program while fulfilling their other summer obligations.
  • Shadowing opportunities are typically scheduled in 4-hour blocks, either 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. or 1 p.m. - 5 p.m., with some full-day options. Most, if not all, of the shadowing opportunities are scheduled during standard Monday through Friday working hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • We ask students to share their availability at the program's start, and assignments are then tailored to their needs. Rest assured, you'll get as much shadowing time as you have available during the four-week program.
  • We schedule at least two 4-hour shadows weekly per student, and then they have the opportunity to sign up for additional 4-hour sessions as available, depending on their schedules.
  • Students are instructed to log all their hours (we provide a form) and their weekly 2-hour clinical conferences also count as logged hours. Surgery observation is included in weeks 3 & 4, and most students spend at least 6 hours observing orthopedic cases.
  • Most students log between 80 and 100 hours during the 4-week program.
  • Once accepted, students will need to complete/verify a variety of checks and immunizations that are required by our clinical partners.
