2020 Healthcare Immersion Program is underway!

7/27/2020

We're excited to introduce our class of 2020, who recently began our summer Healthcare Immersion Program. The program, which provides college students with a unique, clinical immersion experience in healthcare, continues this year, although we've modified it a bit to accommodate COVID-19 health and safety protocols.  As always, our students will only be observers in low-risk outpatient, orthopedic, elective care. and classroom settings.

This year's students are: Mahnoor Yousuf, Roxie Wiblin, Christian Roy, and Sarah Shandy. Our program coordinator once again is Jacob Geier.
  • Mahnoor is a fourth-year undergraduate student at UC San Diego majoring in biochemistry and cell biology, with a minor in global health.
  • Roxie is a rising senior at UC San Diego who is studying behavioral neuroscience with a minor in chemistry.
  • Christian is a former physical therapy aide who's pursuing his post-baccalaureate at Cal State East Bay.
  • Sarah is a graduate of UC Davis with a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry and molecular biology and a minor in human physiology.
We wish them well – we hope they find the program as rewarding and informative as much as we enjoy having them.

Thank you preceptors!

The Healthcare Immersion Program wouldn't exist without our preceptors – those dedicated clinical professionals who are willing to share their experiences and demonstrate their daily practice for our student observers.

This year's preceptors come from a variety of settings and clinical backgrounds:

    Webster Orthopedics
  • Cindy Keane, FNP
Bay Area Orthopedic Surgery & Sports Medicine
  • Nicole Young, PA-C

  • J. Theodore Schwartz, Jr., MD
    Webster Orthopedics
  • Pete Slabaugh, MD
    Webster Orthopedics
  • Melissa Allen, NP

Thank you preceptors! In a year that's put unprecedented stress on the healthcare system, we cannot adequately express our gratitude for your taking time to consider the next generation of healthcare providers.
